Here's What to Do When Your Furnace Won't Ignite

February 23, 2017

We are getting through the last several weeks of winter but we still need our furnaces, especially during frigid nights. Not much is worse than going to bed at night and realizing your furnace won’t kick on. If this happens to you, here are a few things you can check yourself prior to calling Service Experts Heating & Air Conditioning.

Check Air Filters

You should replace standard air filters monthly. If you don’t, they can end up clogged, blocking air flow and causing your furnace to malfunction.

Check Your Thermostat

See if turning the temperature up a few degrees will get the furnace to turn on. If the actual room temperature is higher than the thermostat, the furnace won’t run. Also, verify the system switch is on “heat” or “auto.”

Check the Power

It may seem ridiculous, but confirm the power switch next to the heating equipment is “On.” Even gas heating systems use electricity so confirm the breaker has not tripped and that the power switch was not accidently moved to the “Off” position.

If you review all these things and your furnace will still not kick on, give Service Experts Heating & Air Conditioning a call at 866-397-3787 and we’ll come out and get you taken care of as soon as possible.
