Home Comfort Trends for 2017

February 08, 2017

Envision it: you are gathering up your things at work and miles away at your home, the oven turns on to make dinner. The air conditioning system is notified and adjusts the temperature down to deliver more cool air to counteract the oven’s additional heat. When you come home the lights automatically turn on as you walk in, dinner is made, and your home is at a comfortable temperature.

That’s the goal! And also the sort of advanced home interconnectivity that is obtainable now and 2017 could be a crucial year for advancements in how your home’s heating and cooling systems function as part of the team.

“Smart phones transformed our lives in part because they permitted numerous apps to make our lives simpler and richer,” said Rob Haines, Marketing Manager for Service Experts Heating & Air Conditioning. “We forecast that in 2017, developers will be focusing on more new apps that let all of your home’s systems and appliances interact versus being siloed, and this will include breakout new advancements in how your home’s heating and cooling systems work.”

Smart thermostats and new advanced HVAC systems can already send alerts to you about energy use and standard maintenance such as when it’s time to change the air filter. Future systems could even be able to diagnose a likely equipment failure before it takes place and notify your heating and cooling repair company to call you and set up a technician’s visit. The technician will get to your home with prior knowledge about the issue and the needed parts to repair it.

Another on-the-drawing-board vision is the use of infrared heat sensing inside the home that will conclude which rooms are in use by family and guests and actually guide heating and cooling specifically to those rooms.

“Zoned HVAC systems have been one of the largest growing parts of the heating and air conditioning industry for many years, and that will remain a large opportunity,” said Haines. “Increasingly, systems will concentrate on heating and cooling specific areas as needed to upgrade comfort and energy efficiency.”

And yes, Haines adds, the millennials help drive the trends for at-home connectivity and more efficient heating and cooling systems. “As millennials invest in their homes, they require their home systems like heating and air conditioning to not only do what they are told, but to track and adapt themselves and to proactively communicate with the homeowner. We also notice that the millennials and Generation X are much more aware about energy efficiency and those consequences of their heating and air conditioning systems.”

While right now is a great time to look at trends for the year, it’s also a fantastic time to look into savings that will pay off in the upcoming seasons. Right now many Service Experts centers are offering free or deeply discounted equipment when you buy a qualifying item, such as a free furnace when you invest in an AC system. Seasonal tune-ups are also deeply discounted just in time for the coldest months of the year. Call Service Experts Heating & Air Conditioning in Canada today to schedule a complimentary in-home estimate or to set up a Precision tune up to make sure your heating equipment is ready to keep you safe and warm all winter long.
