Getting Ready for Air Conditioning Season

April 30, 2016

Summer isn’t officially here but the temperatures are definitely rising and that means it’s time for cooling season. Before the heat sets in and you’re running your A/C system 24/7 to stay comfortable, don’t forget to call your AC maintenance technician to come out and conduct your seasonal ac maintenance.

In addition to an AC system tune-up, there are several other ways you can get ready for the cooling season before summer is officially here to stay.

  • Clean Your System

We don’t mean for you to take you’re A/C system apart, let an expert do that, but you can clean up the space around your unit to remove branches and debris that have made their way to your air conditioning unit during the windy winter and stormy spring. Keep the grass trimmed around the A/C and prune back any overgrown shrubs or vegetation to make sure your cooling equipment is clear of debris. Keeping a clear airway can help keep your A/C equipment running properly.

·     Change Your Home’s Air Filters

Service Experts Heating & Air Conditioning will change your home’s basic air filters when they conduct your AC Precision tune-up as part of your standard A/C maintenance. You can (and should) also replace your HVAC air filters on your own, and it’s recommended that you do so at least every four to eight weeks for optimal performance. An unchanged filter accumulates dust, allergens, and germs so for the health of your family and the efficiency of your air conditioner, make sure you’re changing those filters as part of your standard air conditioning service. Remember, a clogged filter could even damage your air conditioner.

  • Block the Sun

Help block the sun from heating up your home by hanging blackout drapes or window shades. Hanging drapes or curtains may also help protect your furniture and floors from fading or enduring sun damage over time.

·     Check Alarm Batteries

If you didn’t spend daylight savings checking the batteries in your smoke and CO detectors, now it the perfect time. Remember to also check the batteries in your thermostat to make sure it is functioning properly so you don’t end up calling an AC service technician because your air conditioner isn’t turning on and then it ends up just being the thermostat. You could also consider investing in a smart thermostat so you can adjust the temperature away from home and save money on your utility bills.

A yearly air conditioner tune-up service could make your A/C unit up to 30% more efficient and save you money on your energy bills.
