• Thermostat 

It may sound silly, but the thermostat is the first place you should check. It’s the first place any heating system technician will check, too. Make sure the system is set to “auto and not “on.” If the thermostat is set to “on” then your furnace will blow continually, even when it isn’t heating the air coming out, thus blowing cold air. Turning it to “auto” will make sure the furnace only blows when it’s actually heating the air to keep your home warm and cozy. 

• Air Filter 

Most air filters need to be changed monthly to avoid them from becoming dirty and clogged. If they aren’t changed often enough, the dirty air filter may restrict airflow into your furnace. If this happens, it can overheat your furnace, causing the system to stop heating as a safety precaution. 

• Duct Work 

If your duct work has leaks, connection problems, or was designed incorrectly, it could allow warm air from the furnace to leak out. This would not only cause your furnace to blow cold air, it could significantly run up your energy bills since your heating system is heating non-living space, and will have to work overtime to keep your home warm.
