Join Service Experts at Walk MS in Dallas and Fort Worth

Nearly 200 people are diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis every week. MS is an autoimmune disorder that causes the body’s immune system to attack its own tissues or organs, producing nerve damage. Symptoms of MS can include spasticity, weakness in the limbs, vertigo, numbness or tingling, and cognitive dysfunctions. One very unique symptom of MS is sensitivity to increased temperatures. In fact, it’s reported that 60% to 80% of people who suffer from MS show excessive sensitivity to increases in their core body temperature.

As if the sensitivity to heat wasn’t enough, the heat also intensifies other symptoms.

Since even the slightest rise in core body temperature (from ¼ to ½ a degree) can cause symptoms to intensify, Service Experts Heating and Air Conditioning cares deeply about this cause. While we love to be involved in our local areas and give back where we can, this disorder and all the issues that come with it hold a dear place in our hearts.

Calverley Service Experts in Fort Worth will be participating in Walk MS on Saturday, April 2nd at Trinity Park in Fort Worth and Service Experts Plano, Service Experts Dallas, and Levy and Son Service Experts will be at Walk MS on Saturday, April 9th at Addison Circle Park in Addison. If you happen to be out, come by and say hi – we hope to see you! If you are unable to be at Walk MS or don’t live in the DFW area, you can always give to help raise money and awareness for the National MS Society or find a walk in your location.

Given the increasing temperatures, everyone should be cautious, stay hydrated, and take breaks as needed. If you or a loved one has MS, please remember these suggestions from the National Multiple Sclerosis Society to ease the effect of the heat:

· Keep cool in an air-conditioned environment during stretches of extreme heat and humidity. If an air conditioner is needed to help minimize the symptoms of MS, the cost of this equipment may be tax deductible if the doctor has written a prescription for it.

· Use cooling products such as vests, neck wraps, and bandanas, during exercise or outdoor activity, or pre- and post-cool.

· Wear loose, “breathe-able” clothing.

· Icy drinks such as “slurpees” or popsicles may provide interim relief.

· Use an oscillating fan during indoor exercise.

We are excited to help create a world free of MS and we want to thank the National Multiple Sclerosis for their inspiring work and dedication to ending this horrible disorder. We hope to see you there!
