Dodging AC Repair during the Dog Days of Summer in Canada

Published on August 18, 2015
Dog Days of Summer

When you think about the ‘Dog Days of Summer’ in Canada, chances are that you could find yourself dreaming about a perfectly chilled home to arrive to when you walk in the door from work. Of course for some homeowners, the unfortunate reality is that they arrive home with a busted air conditioner and now need an AC repair. So what can you do to get through those seemingly never-ending, steamy days without maxing out your air conditioner?

  1. Decrease use of appliances that generate heat. Of course you can’t completely stop using your oven and stove, but being mindful of their uses might help more than you would think. Avoid using heat-generating appliances during peak temperatures as your air conditioner will most likely already be working hard to keep your home cool.

  2. Keep your blinds and shades closed. Windows can let in a great deal of heat if your window coverings aren’t utilized, and considering the temperatures in Canada, your home can warm up very quickly. If you’re heading to work or are just gone for a few hours, make sure to keep your blinds and shades closed to keep any excess heat out.

  3. Take advantage of fans. While fans don’t actually affect air temperature, they do circulate air and help keep your home feeling comfortable. However, remember to turn fans off in rooms that aren’t being used since they don’t reduce the air temperature.

Even as it may seem like the warmest days in Canada are ahead, Service Experts Heating & Air Conditioning is here to make sure that you can relax comfortably in your home. While AC repair can sometimes be tough to avoid, there are tips you can employ to keep cool as summer slowly begins to wind-down. Give Service Experts Heating & Air Conditioning a call at 866-397-3787 or set up an appointment online if you have any questions about your air conditioner or how you can stay comfortable in Canada with the steamy temperatures.
